Karen & Glen--Maui 2008 |
I’ve always dreamed of finding an outlet for my creativity and a way to work from my own home giving me the freedom to work with my life’s schedule. I’m the busy mother of seven children and ten grandchildren and I live in rural central Utah with my husband and our beautiful three german shepherds. I’m also a home birth midwife and a hospice volunteer and also do work in the community with one of my german shepherds who is a certified therapy dog. We live a quiet, gentle life in a small town and the wonders of nature are all around us.
I’ve always felt a deep connection with the earth and especially the ocean and all it's beauty. Rocks of all kinds have always held a deep fascination for me and you’ll find my collection all through our home inside and out. Working with gemstones to make attractive and healing pieces of jewelry fulfills my desire to help others heal themselves spiritually, physically and emotionally. My handmade beaded pieces are varied---------some are elegant and classy, some have ethnic origins and others are more bohemian, organic, casual and even rustic and I have everything in between. But above all they carry with each piece the healing qualities of each stone used. My goal is for you as the wearer of these creations to be aware of these qualities. I believe you’ll be drawn to certain pieces for whatever reasons---------the colors, shapes etc. but I think you’ll find as you check the qualities of each stone contained in that particular piece that you’ll find the piece contains stones you have a need for in your life. It might be for physical healing or for emotional or spiritual qualities that you might be drawn to a certain creation but be aware that the influence of these gemstones are generally subtle in nature.
Please reference the “Gemstone Properties” page for information on each of the stones. I’ve also used many ocean friends in my pieces––abalone, mother of pearl, paua, biwa pearl and many types of coral. I’m sure my love for the ocean and it’s inhabitants comes through in some of the colors and choices of stones. In addition I’ve chosen to use quite a bit of silver from the Karen (pronounced Kah-ren) Hill Tribe from the villages of Thailand. Their amazing silver works are being distributed worldwide and the silver they use is 99.9 % fine silver and is softer than our 92.5% sterling silver. All the hill tribes work with silver, but only the Karen tribe have made silversmithing their profession and the quality of their work far surpasses the neighboring villages. Their beads are made by loving hands because the Karen love their work and every step uses human touch.
I’ve enjoyed recently working with pieces of Sea Glass that have been patiently gathered from beaches and there's a distinct organic and earthy feel to those jewelry creations. I hope you enjoy browsing through my website and finding the creations that will bring you joy and healing.
Blessings, Karen
