True Heart Earrings
Creative and textured Shibuichi shapes and graceful drops of Nephrite Jade hang from Niobium earwires. The gorgeous copper tones are evident in these organic shapes. Shibuichi means "one-fourth" in Japanese and indicates the standard formulation of one part silver to three parts copper, though this may be varied according to the desired effect and each artisan working with it has their own recipe they prefer to work with. However, as the pure hues of the patina are generated by copper oxides and greyed down by silver oxide, the proportion of silver should never exceed that of copper. The coloring goes from pale peach, to cherry reds, to mahogany browns, to gray silvers and is a beautiful material to work with. For centuries, Jade was thought to be a single gemstone, but in 1863 two types were recognized: Jadeite and Nephrite. Nephrite is more common, but both types of Jade are tough, fine-grained rocks, suitable for carving. Jade is known as the "dream stone" and a "stone of fidelity". Jade brings realization to ones potential and devotion to ones purpose and is the symbol of tranquillity and wisdom. Jade is said to possess yang (the vital masculine principal) and in China, it was believed to impart immortality.
