Nani Earrings
In Hawaiian "Nani" means "Beautiful". This fascinating pair of earrings is a unique group of Aquamarine Sea Glass, an irridescent Abalone coin and a gorgeous navy blue Pearl. Between the sea glass are sterling silver spacers. The earwires are also sterling silver. Beach or Sea Glass is natural found glass that has been tumbled by shifting sands and the tumbling ocean waves and tossed back up onto the beach to be discovered by those patient enough to hunt for it. It resembles precious gems with its frosted surface and rounded edges and stunning colors. Important features are both the colors of the glass (as some are more rare) and the amount of total wear and rounding of its surface. Discovered in the shifting tides these well-worn glass pieces can take several decades to develop the soft round edges and at least 50 to 100 years for a thick piece to become the treasure we hunt for. The use of Sea Glass in jewelry has increased as theses lovely gems become more scarce. I’ve found it almost a meditation to sit in one place as the sun warms my back and the scent of the clean ocean air soothes my soul….watching as each wave brings me new treasures to discover. Abalone or Paua are vibrantly colored shells that have the colors of the ocean in them, blues, greens, purples and yellows. They are soft to the touch from repeated tumbles in the sand and water and have slight ripples on them like the patterns left in the sand as the waves lapse over it. The negative ions created by the salt water’s crashing waves brings healing energy with the abalone shell. The brilliant iridescent patterns catch glints of light when viewed from different angles, creating a dance of intense ocean colors. Pearls come fine-finished directly from nature. Because of their natural beauty, they are associated with the matrix of life and some say that the pearl helps balance one’s bodily rhythms and hormonal levels with lunar cycles. They are said to harmonize one’s life with the rhythms of the natural world. Having what appears to be an inward glow, some claim that pearls can be used to help tap inner wisdom and to nurture the growth of love.
