The captivating colors of deep rich orange and rust of Red Spiney Oyster rondelles circle around to a large and dramatic handmade Hill Tribe Silver Spiral pendant. The pendant is slightly domed making it even more eye-catching and there’s an almost meditative feel to it. There are tiny Hill Tribe silver beads spacing the Spiney Oyster and the toggle clasp is also handmade Hill Tribe Silver.

Silver can be used as a mirror to the soul and help you see yourself from the outside without judgement. It is used often with gemstones because it’s able to both attract and retain those qualities that are emitted by the stone and provides a steadying influence for the jewel. Hill Tribe silver is pure, fine silver (.999) produced under fair trade regulations by a group of Karen Hill Tribe villagers in Northern Thailand. The Karen silversmiths are taught to carefully handcraft each design from scratch, using high content silver. They have passed down their silver work skills and traditions and today, each handmade ornament is a unique masterpiece that represents centuries of Karen culture and art. Because it is handcrafted each bead and piece is distinct and slightly different. Since ancient times the spiral design has been the symbol of the goddess, the womb, fertility, continual change, and the evolution of the universe.

Spiny Oyster Shell thrives in the warmer waters off the South American coast of Ecuador and Northern Peru and off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. Part of its value to the ancient Peruvians was due to the difficulties involved in harvesting these beautiful shells. They were used by the ancient Incas in jewelry and as money in other pre-Columbian cultures. Shell color will vary due to the changing temperatures in ocean waters and is available in various shades of orange, red and purple and occasionally yellow. It was the shell most loved by the Mayan people, and has been found in abundance in archeological excavations of the Anasazi, Mogollon and Hohokam of Southwest. There are limited suppliers for the Spiny Oyster beads and due to it’s rarity it brings a higher price. It has always been a favorite of the Native American Indian jewelry artists. The quality is determined by the amount of color in the beads as opposed to the amount of white. The colors are difficult to capture with a camera but they’re a deep rich rust orange. Spiny Oyster is thought to encourage joy, security and adaptability.

This unique pendant is a winning combination with the Red Spiney Oyster and is both inspiring and striking! Length-17 1/2 inches with a 1 1/2 inch drop on the pendant.
