Maui Sunset Necklace

Ocean energy fills this intriguing combination in a great piece of one-of-a-kind jewelry. The focal point is a stunning pendant made from a Beach stone collected from the Black Sand Beach in Hana, Maui. Dangling on top of the stone is a lovely artisan crafted sterling silver heart. Above the pendant are two beautiful pieces of teal and aqua Sea Glass also collected from the beaches of Maui. The pendant hangs from three thin strands of black Greek leather, known for it’s smooth finish, consistent color and extra soft & supple texture from the very first time it’s worn. The crimps at the ends and the lobster clasp are all sterling silver. Finally this piece finishes with an extender chain and a great little Hill Tribe Silver starfish charm.

The origins of the Black beach stone are volanic lava rock tumbled smooth by the wonderful ocean waves and then tossed back onto the beach. There has been NO additional tumbling....they come to you as the ocean created them and are a bit rustic in nature. I’ve carefully drilled the stones and then waxed them to give them a semi-gloss finish. The energy and spirit in Hana is profound and almost meditative and this fragile oasis of true Hawaiian culture is a joy to visit each year.

Beach or Sea Glass is natural found glass that has been tumbled by shifting sands and the tumbling ocean waves and tossed back up onto the beach to be discovered by those patient enough to hunt for it. It resembles precious gems with its frosted surface and rounded edges and stunning colors. Important features are both the colors of the glass (as some are more rare) and the amount of total wear and rounding of its surface. Discovered in the shifting tides these well-worn glass pieces can take several decades to develop the soft round edges and at least 50 to 100 years for a thick piece to become the treasure we hunt for. The use of Sea Glass in jewelry has increased as theses lovely gems become more scarce. I’ve found it almost a meditation to sit in one place as the sun warms my back and the scent of the clean ocean air soothes my soul….watching as each wave brings me new treasures to discover.
