This organic choker stands out with a striking hand-carved bronze focal bead from the Akha tribe in Thailand. On each side are African brass bicone spacers and distinctive handmade African Silver bicone beads. All hang on dark chocolate brown Greek leather, known for it’s smooth finish, consistent color and extra soft & supple texture from the very first time it’s worn. The crimps at the ends and the lobster clasp are all sterling silver.

The Akha are an ethnic group which originated in China and Tibet. Most of the remaining Akha people are now distributed in small villages among the mountains of China, Laos, Burma and Thailand where they are one of the six main hill tribes. The Akha generally live in bamboo houses raised on low wooden stilts in hilly areas and are expert farmers who focus on mountain rice, corn, and soybeans that are planted in seasonal shifts. The Akha will often supplement their income through the sale of handicrafts and woven clothing made using traditional skills. The Akha put a particularly heavy emphasis on genealogy and are taught their family history at a very early age, with a strong focus on honoring ancestors and their parents. They believe in a natural cycle of balance that, if disrupted, can result in illness, hardship, or even death.
